The Junior League of the Emerald Coast is trying to effect change in the lives of these children
Every fall, over three hundred children are bussed to our local area Target from Okaloosa and Walton County Elementary Schools.** This is the signature community project for the Junior League of the Emerald Coast (JLEC)! The event takes place over a two day period in the month of October and is made possible with the help of not only the ladies of the Junior League, but also the volunteers from various schools and organizations in the community, as well as our generous donors.
The Child Clothing project is the Junior League of the Emerald Coast's main focus when it comes to fundraising throughout the year. Each child shops for a new pair of shoes, socks, underwear, two short sleeved shirts, a jacket, a long sleeved shirt, a pair of jeans, and a pair of active pants---all items that they are able to pick out on their own. These items typically amount to about $100.00 per child.
**Children are from both Okaloosa and Walton counties and are suggested by their school's guidance counselor and are required to be on the Free and/or Reduced Lunch Program.
We are trying to help make a difference in children's lives by sending them to school a little more comfortable and a little warmer in the winter months, yet there is a long way to go to reach each one of the kids in need in our area. Our goal is to expand into hosting this event twice a year, as well as install and maintain clothes closets in local schools and other non-profits we partner with.
