This summer, I will be traveling along with a group of volunteers from my high school, Marin Academy, to Daraja Academy, an all girls secondary school located in northern Kenya. In preparation for this trip my fellow volunteers and I have decided to run the 100th Bay to Breakers race this May 15th. What makes this race so special is that each of us has been paired with a girl from Daraja Academy. My partner, Florence Mueni, will be simultaneously running with me. Despite the thousands of miles that separate Florence and I, we will be running together, united by our cause to support Daraja Academy and the amazing work it does!
Daraja Academy is an amazing, entirely free school situated just outside of Nanyuki, Kenya, which is four hours north of Nairobi. Each year the school takes the brightest, most dedicated girls from all around Kenya, girls who wouldn't otherwise have a chance to attend school and further their educations. By being a girl-specific school, Daraja does it's part to combat the disproportionate statistic that 70 percent of the world's 130 million out-of-school youth are girls.
This summer I will aim to do my part to help the Daraja girls, my own peers. With your help and support, Marin Academy's trip to Daraja Academy can be a great success. All donations are greatly appreciated, and no amount is too small! Please help Daraja Academy continue changing the life of each and every girl that walks through its door vastly for the better!
