In October of 2013, I will turn forty. My goal is to run four road races; a 5K, a 10K, a 15K and a half marathon before that date while also raising money for favorite charities with each race.
For my run in the Vermont City Marathon, I plan to run approximately a 15K (actually a little more than 15K). The charity I chose to fundraise for while training for the race is the March of Dimes.
I am the mother of two wonderful children, Charlie and Violet. My husband and I decided we wanted to have a third child, and I became pregnant easily, twice. But both pregnancies were lost - one in February 2012 and another in September 2012. Both times each pregnancy ended after the so-called "risky period," at 12+ weeks each. With each pregnancy, we had seen a healthy heart beat and had normal ultra sounds before the visit when we discovered our babies had died. Both babies were girls, and all tests came back normal. After having no previous problems when I had my other children, the doctors are stumped.
While we will likely never have any answers as to why this happened, and it may never make sense, I am channeling some of my grief into fundraising for March of Dimes. March of Dimes is an organization that works to improve the health of mothers and babies. Included in their mission are great, important initiatives, such as newborn screening, preventing premature birth, and awareness of the importance prenatal care.
I hope you will consider donating to this cause in memory of my lost children, as well as for the future of all mothers and babies. Thank you.
