I have run marathons in several cities but the Boston Marathon is special. It was and will always be "my marathon". This was the 1st time in over 20 years that I was not at the finish line...whether running, working or as a supporter. I missed getting a new qualifying time during the heat wave of 2012, so in 2013 my support came at Heartbreak Hill where I thought most beneficial. The events that transpired in April immediately were personal. The innocent victims could just as easily have been my friends, family or me. As if it couldn't hit any closer to home... it literally did. I was one of the houses searched in Watertown days later. The officers who responded were not law enforcement to me they were Joe, John and Eddie... guys I knew from town. The streets are a runner’s playing field; it is where we find strength, serenity and resolve. That turn from Hereford to Boylston Street… those last 385 yards are hallowed ground. People come to witness pure joy there, the celebration of one’s journey. So why run? I consider it an honor running for ONE FUND BOSTON, a charity that shows enormous love and support for the victims, a pride for the city of Boston and the running community, not only here, but around the world. I am BOSTON STRONG WATERTOWN PROUD!
