Joan K. Sommmer, an incredibly strong and beautiful woman, lost her long 21 year battle with ovarian cancer on May 30, 2014. As a close friend to Joan's daughter, Kirsten, I got to know Joan very well. I am lucky enough to have been a part of her life and to have loved her.
Joan was so full of life and always made me feel so comfortable. She had a way of making you feel so good about yourself, almost like you were in on some kind of secret together. Her way of love was so personal and caring. She was a treasure to have known and her remarkable strength is inspiring to all.
I have set up this website on behalf of The Sommer Family to be able donate to one of the oragnizations that Joan supported and leaned on through the years: Gilda's Club of Northern New Jersey.
Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey was the 8th affiliate to open and officially opened its signature Red Door on April 1 3, 2000. Gilda’s Club is an essential complement to medical care for those living with cancer and their families and friends, to help them take control of their lives and learn to live with cancer, whatever the outcome. It is a place where people share and learn how to help themselves by helping others because no one should go through cancer alone. Communities of free support for everyone living with cancer – men, women, teens and children – along with their families and friends.
"She is loved by many and known by more. She has inspired countless and given comfort and guidance to all that crossed paths with her. She is that clear flowing creek hidden deep in the forest that quenches the thirst of all who pass by. Certainly her creek extends into villages and cities as well. One just has to look." -Joe Sommer
Thank you for all our generousity and support.
