Nearly a year and a half ago, Transverse Myleitis struck me with only little warning-- soreness in my neck. Several days later in the midst of work, I lost feeling, and then mobility on the right side of my body. TM affected the C3-C4 area of my spinal cord. I was very fortunate that my respiratory system was unaffected, but I would spend the next 6 weeks in the hospital.
Hopeful that I would regain my strength and functioning, I worked... hard. Mentally overcoming TM was its own reward. It changed my outlook on life and reminded me of what's important. I thank God each day for the strength to continue in my recovery.
Though I may not yet be able to run, I walk because a year ago, I couldn't. I walk to support those who were affected by TM and to encourage others to never give up. My family and friends walk as they always did--beside me, supporting me.
