Joanne Commisso Duchnowski, a Long Island native who grew up in Syosset and currently resides in Huntington, seems to be living the dream with her loving family and fulfilling, successful career. A dual career really, because in addition to being an accountant, Joanne caught the entrepreneurial bug and is extremely passionate about the custom motorcycle detailing business she owns which allows her to exercise her creative flair to an ever appreciative client base. Something she finds particularly rewarding.
But things weren’t always on the up and up for Joanne, prior to having her son, she was in a severe horseback riding accident that left her with a bleak prognosis and precious little hope. She brushed that aside and defied the odds in her recovery. It would seem that she’s really a natural born fighter after all. Someone who maintained hope and eventually had her miracle child, who is now a lofty 13 years old.
All of the above; her family, her work and her defiance of the odds are among her most important achievements in life and as she puts it, ‘hope, out of all the forces, makes for a better world and is so powerful. Hope allows us to think, work and dream.’
Hope is truly something that permeates her whole being down to her motto; if you have hope, you have everything.’
Perhaps that’s why her heroes are those unnamed, ordinary people who perform extraordinary acts of kindness in the name of simply giving back. It’s like her father always said, ‘good men take care of themselves, great men take care of others.’
She finds that giving back is the only way to live her life, because she recognizes the interconnectedness of people and believes that all of us have the power to make a difference. That all of us have the power to inspire hope in those less fortunate which is why she is particularly excited that Fighters4Life benefits, in part, Gleason’s Give A Kid A Dream program.
Ultimately, Joanne exemplifies positivity, a spirit of free will and a profound love of life and she’ll continue to share her message of hope with all those she comes across.
