“We cannot always prepare the future for our youth, but we can always prepare our youth for the future.” – Franklin Delano Roosevelt
In addressing the nation in his second inaugural address, in facing the greatest economic crisis of our time, FDR called upon all of us to build a better future for our youth. We wish that we could say that the circumstances for young people in America have improved since the Great Depression, but the reality is that today, even a greater number of young people – approximately 1 in 5 in New York City alone – do not have the opportunity to pursue the American Dream, as they are out of school, out of work, out of options, and running out of hope.
At JobsFirstNYC, we’re here to change that. We know that these young people want a better life, and given the right supports and access to real, quality jobs, that young people can and will be a critical part of our future. With you, we can make that a reality for all young people.
Our goal is to reduce the number of young people in New York City that are out of school and out of work by 5% in five years. That means creating at least 10,000 new jobs for young people--and that's just to start. This is a big goal, but we’re here to tackle a big problem. And we’ll need your help to succeed.
Join us in this critical effort. Whether you contribute $10, $100, or $1,000, every penny will go to directly connecting young people to jobs. To learn more, visit our website at www.jobsfirstnyc.org. You can also download our strategic plan which clearly outlines our goals.
