We did it! Lan Vwa's school in Joconal, Guatemala will graduate its first high school class this October. Our school is the first ever high school in Joconal. Before it was founded, students had to walk to a village three hours away for secondary education. Now, they have access to a top quality education regardless of their families' ability to pay for it. Our students have bright futures--most of them intend to continue their education at the college level and all of them have the job and life skills to thrive in their tiny village or in big cities far from home. We are now raising funds to support graduation expenses.
- It costs each student $640 to cover the graduation cerimony, seminar, dinner, exam, suit, and dipolma. These fees total $3,200 for all 5 of our students to graduate.
- Their school is technically 5 hours away, so we want to help get them to graduation. The cost of travel to and from the city, 2 days of meals, and 2 nights of lodging is $80 per student or $400 total for all of our grads.
- Lastly, a graduation would not be complete without a party and presents! We want to celebrate with the graduates, their friends, families, and well, the entire village. We're planning for cake, tamales, and Cokes for 400 people. The graduation party with food, decorations, and a gift from all of us will cost $900.
We know the first graduating class in Joconal has an exciting future in front of them, but that is just the beginning. We know that this graduation will be the start of something special in Joconal: a culture of learning and appreciation of education. Your support will make this possible!
