Joe's Race4FH to raise awareness for familial hypercholestrolemia (FH)
September 03, 2017
My name is Joe; 328 days ago, I had a heart attack and came very close to leaving my loved ones behind without me. Please join me in raising awareness about Familial Hypercholesterolema (FH). Normally, I normally only run one 5K race a month. This month my physical goal is to run four 5Ks in the month of Sept for the Race4FH. Since my heart attack I share my story with friends, family, and coworkers who may not be aware they have a higher than average rate for heart attacks or strokes. If you have FH, your LDL-cholesterol levels will be very high, leading to narrowing or blockage of blood vessels (atherosclerosis). This process starts prior to birth and can ultimately result in heart disease, heart attack, or stroke. Other CVD risk factors include smoking, over-weight, high blood pressure, and a sedentary life. If you have FH, eliminate smoking, control your weight and blood pressure, and lead a physically active lifestyle. All these are important factors, together with medical therapy and a healthful diet, in lowering your risk of an early heart attack. I've adopted a lifestyle changes needed to lower my risk factors for another heart attack dramatically. I encourage everyone to get their Cholesterol checked and make positive long-lasting goals to be healthy. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and know that every dollar we raise is going to a noble cause to help raise awareness for FH. Keep the Focus and Finish Strong!
