BENEFITING: Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation
A bicycle ride across America, fueled by an appetite for adventure and a good challenge, grows into an opportunity to support a great cause. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation had crossed paths with my father through another charitable organization, and later that night I noticed the brochure of the Foundation's Building for America's Bravest program. I immediately knew that I would want my TransAmerica bike tour to help raise money and awareness for this charity. It seemed perfectly fitting to ride coast to coast for the men and women who courageously sacrifice to defend it.
The bicycle tour encompasses approximately 4,200 miles through 10 states with 165,000 ft of climbing elevation. The 12-week journey starting in Yorktown, Virginia and ending in Astoria, Oregon will present many difficulties including high amounts of muscle fatigue, logistical challenges, wildlife, and extreme weather, and the need to find food, water, and shelter, each day. As much as these challenges seem substantial, I am even more motivated and humbled to be able to support an organization such as the Tunnel to Towers Foundation which gives back to the first responder's community, US military, and others in need.
