“You have cancer….”
These 3 words instantly change the course of lives, shatter dreams, darken bright futures and literally bring people to their knees.
In 2016, over 1.6 million people heard these words. I personally know 2 of them. How many do you know?
Along with a devastating cancer diagnosis comes the financial uncertainty of how families will be able to sustain their lifestyles, remain in their homes, pay their bills and still see a future ahead of them all the while paying for treatments, medications and overwhelming out-of-pocket expenses. Bankruptcy rates among cancer patients is 2X the national average.
Throughout its 9 year history, the Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) has been providing financial and emotional support to cancer patients and their families when it is needed most; when the bills are 3 months late, the car need repairs and the eviction notice is on the door.
Last year, through your generous support of my fundraising efforts as member of TEAM JAF's 2016 Boston Marathon team, TOGETHER we raised $4,800 and helped 6 patients and their families breathe a little easier while battling cancer.
This year, I am honored to have been selected to represent TEAM JAF in the 2017 Boston Marathon. I have committed to raising $7500 to support the Foundation in a mission I have the privilege to practice everyday as Programs Manager at JAF. Yes, is it a scary number, but so is not being able to pay your rent, get to treatment or simply keep the lights on.
I am excited to not only retrace my steps from Hopkinton to Boston one more time (hopefully under 6 hours!)but proudly and humbly represent the countless families who's lives are forever changed by those 3 words.. "You have cancer.."
I thank you in advance for your consideration of donating your and leave you with the words from a patient who's live together we helped.
.."THANK YOU SO MUCH! These words don't seem powerful enough, but when
you don't have a dollar, ten seems like a million away. Like many, we were not
prepared for this.... You were there - you threw us a small life jacket.
We are staying afloat." ~ Mike, Vermont
