For the past year and a half, I've been working with the community to build a new service organization for the arts in Atlanta.
So far, we've provided business training to thirty individual artists through the Entrepreneurship in the Arts seminar. To the left, you'll see a couple of the class photos we've taken of these amazing people.
We've also connected more than thirty artists to a two-year subsidized health insurance plan, through the Kaiser Permanente Bridge Program. Artists in that program are given the challenge to build their professional careers so they come out at the end of those two years, prepared to make the transition to affording full coverage. By the end of the year, we will have more than fifty artists in this program.
The Arts and Culture Census brought together eighteen arts organizations in what is now an ongoing research effort to understand how our creative industry can better serve the community. Back in August, we published the initial results of this iniative, aggregating the data from nearly 400,000 households in the Atlanta region.
There is more to come. 2011 was the year we planted a seed. And we could not have done that without support from our friends within the community. 2012 is the year we'll see our roots begin to grow and take hold.
As Atlanta's new network of arts entrepreneurs grow, we'll work toward growing and strengthening that network -- developing programs for professional development, creating space for growth, and opening new doors for professional opportunities. This is how we grow Atlanta's creative economy: by building a network of creative professionals, one class at a time.
Please join me in contributing to and supporting this effort! Your support is greatly appreciated.
