My name is Joel Bayubahe. I am co-founder & Executive Director of Youth Action for Development (YAD) - a youth entrepreneurship and self-employment training and supportive program officially registered as a not for profit organization with the government of Burundi through its Ministry of Interior under the registration n°530/1239 of 23/08/2004 (equivalent to US 501(c) (3)). This is also the official host institution of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in Burundi.
My primary focus is to help high-risk youth in the great lakes region create new opportunities so they can have an equal chance to compete in today’s global knowledge based economy.
Our vision is to create better futures through business entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurship and community services.
Our mission is to create the next generation of young entrepreneurial leaders whose innovations and social enterprises address the major unmet needs of our community.
Then for us working in entrepreneurship, this concept is defined by us as the action of creating a new commercial or social enterprise is crucial.
YAD directly targets primary, secondary, university and out-of-school young boys and girls aged between 15 and 35 from both urban and rural areas across the country. They are particularly high-risk and in critical need of interventions that assist them in recovery and filling social, behavioral, educational, and other developmental gaps resulting from extended periods of inter-ethnic and community conflicts in their respective communities. The intent is that, as more youth take part, more become economically self reliant, civically active, and socially responsible - critical traits needed in building a better future in every community.
We are really interested into partnering with a variety of stakeholders at local and international levels to become more empowered. The more partnerships we build the better results we yield: developing a variety of action partnerships with families, youth-led organizations, specialized government agencies, training institutions, UN agencies, Donors, International NGOs, Civil Society NGOs, Private sector, etc. will empower us to create an enabling environment where our young girls and boys are prepared for future life as productive, contributing citizens, well-equipped to create a job or to take a job and become agents for social change.
