BENEFITING: THE JOE TORRE SAFE AT HOME FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: THE JOE TORRE SAFE AT HOME FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Despite a long standing and sensible aversion to running long distances in crowds of extremely fit people, I have decided to run the New York City marathon this year to raise money for the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation, a charity focused on domestic violence.
There are 10 million (!!!) domestic violence incidents in the US every year and 1 in 3 women will suffer from some form of physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime, with the majority of these incidents falling into the "severe" category.
These statistics are obviously completely disgraceful and whether its Australia or the US, domestic violents gets far less attention from just about everybody than it deserves given the pervasiveness of the problem.
Charities like Joe Torre Safe at Home are at the frontlines of this issue and I would highly appreciate any donations large and small to this cause
