Now in its 4th year, Rock The Ridge continues its tradition of achievement, community, and a dedication to preserving the natural environment for future generations to enjoy. Conceived in the spirit of President John F. Kennedy's call to Americans to get fit, Rock The Ridge renews this challenge from the early 1960s and places it right in the heart of the magnificent Shawangunk Ridge, land which The Nature Conservancy has described as “one of Earth's last great places.
Set in the 8,000-acre Mohonk Preserve, the course winds along beautiful carriage trails, through the forests and across the magnificent ridgelines of the Preserve lands. Whether you choose to walk, run, or do a combination of both, Rock the Ridge is a spectacular outdoor adventure, and an accomplishment that you’ll be proud of for a long time!
Starting with 188 participants in 2013, the event grew to 340 registered runners and hikers in 2015. Many of our Ridge Rockers continue to be first-timers, but the number returnees has grown each year, with over a dozen people who have completed the full 50 miles in each of the first three years. In that time, our registrants have collectively raised nearly $400,000 to support the mission of Mohonk Preserve.
We wish to thank everyone who has enjoyed the event thus far and contributed to its success. Given the terrific commitment we've seen from athletes across the country, we're confident that this unique event will continue to grow and grow, bringing even greater support for Mohonk Preserve's ongoing initiatives in land preservation, stewardship, and education.
On behalf of the entire Rock The Ridge team, I'd like to welcome you to our special community, and I ask you to join us on April 30, 2015 for what will surely be 50 of the most spectacular miles you will ever experience on foot.
Director, Rock The Ridge
