BENEFITING: Fountain House, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
In running the New York Marathon on Nov. 6 2016, I would like to ask for your support by donating to a cause that means a lot to me and my family, the Michael Walther Executive Fellowship at Fountain House in New York City. The Fellowship was established by the Walther family in memory of their son and brother Michael, who was dedicated to improving the lives of people with mental illness. It supports a ten month internship program for mental health professionals who aspire to establish and head rehabilitative support programs for people with serious mental illness. These clubhouse programs give members opportunities to live, work, and learn, while focusing on their strengths and abilities instead of their psychiatric diagnoses. Fellows from the program have graduated to go on and open/ direct clubhouses around the world. The Fellowship is based out of Fountain House in New York City, the first such clubhouse program, which improves the lives of people living with mental illness through their community mental health programs. Fountain House relies on the voluntary participation of its members, developing innovative programs and research, and advocating for people living with serious mental illness by improving perceptions and practices, sharing knowledge, and reducing stigma.
