We need YOU to help us raise a total of $20,000!
Clean Roadways + Safe Bikers = Happy Communities
How you can help: Join Pedaling for a Cleaner America (PCA), a cross-country bicycle touring campaign led by cycling enthusiast and community leader John Deuel, to bring together people who love to ride with their communities to prevent litter and keep the places we cycle clean and beautiful.
Step # 1: Pedal Up to Cleanup! Initiate meaningful change in your community this spring by working with John to organize a “Pedal Up to Clean Up” event with local cyclists and community members to pick up litter that blights the roadways and bikeways where cyclists love to ride.
Cleanups are fun, short, 1-hour long events that challenge people to care for the places they use, and then celebrate their accomplishments.
Results are shared with the broader community through signs visible to motorists at the cleanup area, local media outlets and through PCA’s national partners – Keep America Beautiful and the Adventure Cycling Association.
Step # 2: Donate! We are investing $30,000 to make this trip a reality and share the message of creating cleaner, more vibrant and safer communities across the U.S. Support our ride accross America by helping us raise funds.
About John Deuel:
I started PCA in Norfolk, Va., with the support of the Tidewater Bicycle Association. In 2013, Pedal Ups to Cleanups were held in four separate cities as well as during a cross-state ride.
In my 30 years of public service and years of cycling, I have seen how litter and waste affect the natural beauty of our community’s environment. I have also seen how people, working together, can make a difference, one road at a time. Through PCA, I want to provide opportunities for cyclists of all types to join forceswith the communities they cycle through to make a very public and strong statement that litter is unacceptable and we can make a difference.
About the cross-country ride:
In the spring of 2014, I and my wife Sallie will take PCA on a national cycling tour and conduct Pedal Ups to Cleanups in towns and cities along the Trans America Trail.
Over a three-month period and over 3,000 miles, PCA will share Keep America Beautiful’s litter prevention and community vibrancy message. Starting in San Diego in early April and ending in Virginia Beach, Va., their route passes through the heartland of America, including: Phoenix and Flagstaff, Arizona; Pueblo, Colorado; Pittsburg, Kansas; Carbondale, Illinois; Charlottesville and Norfolk, Virginia.
