Pursuit is a capital campaign with a two-tiered mission: first, to raise $13.5MM for The Center and second, to advance the interest of all individuals with disABILITIES across the country. Across the United States, there are currently 10 million individuals that have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Pursuit’s mission is to bring awareness to this underserved population by bicycling across the United States this summer.
Beginning on June 6, 2016, David Baldwin, longtime Center Board Member, departed from Astoria, OR and will ultimately ride 3,500 miles, reaching Rehoboth Beach, DE on August 3. David will be accompanied by a small support crew. Along the route, the Pursuit Team will visit leading organizations, universities and research facilities to garner best practices in serving individuals with disABILITIES.
The Center promotes the pursuit of choice, growth, and personal independence for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These three core principles drive our mission at The Center, and for over six decades have empowered individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live dignified lives filled with opportunities within an enriched, nurturing community. We believe that those with disabilities are capable of leading fulfilling lives when their personal goals and desires are respected and they receive the tools they need; we operate with that in mind every day. Ever growing and changing, The Center currently serves over 450 individuals through a wide array of dynamic programs and services tailored to the varied needs of the individuals and families we serve.
