I Have been a Police Officer for 28 years. I have scene heroic moments and shared in people’s tragedies. There are six letters that buckle the knees of the toughest people I know, C-A-N-C-E-R. That is right cancer. An often unforgivable disease that has touched every family. My wife had a scare with Melanoma. We are thankful that is was got early. I have had numerous family members and friends that have succumb to cancer. There memories are with me everyday.
I have took it upon myself to enter Haymakers for Hope to help raise money for Dana-Farber and cancer research. It is those that currently have cancer, been recently diagnosed or yet to be diagnosed that I have fighting for. I have a minimum goal of raising $4,000 for this event. I recently spoke with a life long family friend and retired Police Officer that has been diagnosed with Cancer (Leukemia). When I asked how he was feeling he just stated “I am just waiting to die”. That is why this event is so important. It helps to find a cure for cancer. Hopefully there will be a day when we hear the word cancer that our thoughts won’t be so grave.
Don’t get me wrong there are success stories we hear about everyday. Those who go into remission, others who once have had cancer that are know cancer free. This is accomplished only from research and the mind set of the individual.
“The Strong Shall Survive” . How can a person with cancer be strong if there is no hope in sight. That is where you come in. I will do my part. I will train everyday with the memories of those who I have lost from cancer to motivate me. What you have to do is to decide what dollar amount is worthy ? What would you or I pay to have one more quality day, week, month, year with someone we lost from cancer?
Thank you for your support.
