EVENT DATE: Jun 17, 2013
The First Annual John Kuegeler Memorial Summer Music Camp is a one-week jazz band day camp that will be held the second week of June for Cleveland Ohio youth. John C. Kuegeler, a Cleveland Ohio performing musician, composer and educator was passionate about working with all age groups, especially young musicians. John was awarded a 2012 Workforce Fellowship for music from the Cuyahoga Partnership for Arts and Culture. Unfortunately for our community, John passed away suddenly in June of 2012.
Our program will bring together youth from across the city for this very special one week experience to prepare and perform jazz music compositions for the general public under the guidance of a professional music conductor. Our goal is to have students from different schools and backgrounds across the city come together for challenging and enjoyable musical fellowship and performance. The students will rehearse the material Monday through Friday, and perform the selections on Saturday for the general public. They will also have the opportunity to rehearse and perform with professional local vocalists and poets as guest artists of the camp, an experience we believe is invaluable in their growth as ensemble performers. There will be a live DVD recording of the performance that will be available after post production and editing. The DVD will also incorporate still photos of rewards recipients, and rehearsals from this one week project.
Student auditions will be a two part process.
1. A essay submission including the following topics
"How music has inspired me"
"How I plan to continue integrating music into my life as an adult to one day impact the world community"
