Stuff About Me:

Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well, in good health and preparing for a wonderful summer. I wanted to let you all know of my recent commitment to run the New York City Marathon on November 4, 2018. I last ran it in November of 1999 at age 35, just before the birth of our middle child. Running the NYC Marathon was one of the most exciting events I have ever participated in. The sense of accomplishment and competing with myself to complete the marathon was overwhelming. Kelli was in the stands at the finish line cheering for me, and family and friends were cheering for me from home. It was an incredible experience.

So why now, at the age of 54, would I choose to do this again? If you know me, you know that I am goal oriented and that I love a challenge, so that’s one reason. I also would like another chance to enjoy again the experience that I had in 1999. But what really motivated me was the purpose.

Several weeks ago, State Farm set out to create a team of runners from its employee base that would commit to running for the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, lengendary North Carolina basketball coach and ESPN Commentator.  The V Foundation has awarded more than $200 million to more than 120 facilities nationwide and proudly awards 100% of direct cash donations to cancer research and related programs. Due to generous donors, The Foundation has an endowment that covers administrative expenses.

Over the years, I have lost multiple friends and family to cancer. I doubt that anyone reading this message has not in some way been affected by cancer.  As Jim Valvano proclaimed in his speech at the ESPY awards in 1993: “Never Give Up….Don’t Ever Give Up!”  While I have not faced the same obstacle as he faced, these words have actually been words that I have lived by since I was young. Giving up has not been an option for me, especially when the stakes are high. I would like to apply this same mindset to running the NYC Marathon on November 4 in honor of those who have fought, are currently fighting and will fight cancer.

Within the State Farm team for the V Foundation, I will be the only runner from Texas. My goal is to raise $10,000 for Cancer Research. With your help, I hope to achieve this goal. Here’s some great news: State Farm will match every donation made 100%! Whatever you are able to donate to this cause will be doubled!

Please consider making a donation of:

__$25          __ $50           __$100         __$250         __$500         __$1000         __$5000

Any donation to the V Foundation to help find Victory over Cancer is greatly appreciated!
