Hi Y'all! I'm the 7th and 8th grade math teacher at Evergreen Community Charter School in Asheville, North Carolina. I want to help our school raise money to pay for everything from much needed renovations, school supplies, technology, field trip costs, professional development for our teachers and anything we need to keep our school the most awarded school in the Western North Carolina mountains. We are an exceptional school recognized for our distinguished academic achievements and our focus on environmental and global stewardship.
My personal challenge is to hike the 211 mile John Muir Trail starting in Yosemite and ending at the tallest peak in the lower 48, Mt. Whitney. I have recieved my permit reservations for the month of July! Very hard to get! During the month of July, I want to raise national, if not global, awareness for our Evergreen community in hopes to find monetary support in keeping our lovely charter school up and running. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to Evergreen.
As a public charter school, we do not get all the same governmental funding as other schools and must fundraise for our deficits, much needed renovations, supplies, outdoor education field trips and the general upkeep of our facilities.
I thought twice about connecting my trip to my school, thinking it's not as "sexy" a cause as some of the other causes out there...but believe me, if our school doesn't make it, that will be tragic to our 400 K-8 students and over 40 faculty and staff...and the Asheville community...and I'll be so bold as to say, the world, because we help raise some beautiful, smart and creative people.
Give me a push to get through those 99 switchbacks to Whitney and over that next pass. If I succeed, Evergreen does, too. Thank You!
