ALL WAYS UP FOUNDATION wrote -
In this essay, I will describe the world from which I come and why I have chosen to pursue higher education. I have been a native of Xenia, Ohio my entire life. It is not a place many people have heard of, and most of the time when I tell people where I am from, they ask, 'Who is Xenia.' Everyone knows everyone, and any crimes are rare and usually make the top story on the news. I live with my family, a single mother, and four siblings. My school is public and typical, with little individualism but has unique qualities. With all this being said, I love where I come from and what my environment has taught me, but because of my surroundings, I strive to do nothing more than to get out of my small town and experience the world for the expansive opportunity it could be. I love it here, but it is the type of place that if you do not leave when you can, you never will. I dream to do bigger and better things. I have seen people that were born here, raised here, gone to college here, worked here, grew old here, and died here. I want so much more for myself. This is why higher education is a good path for me. My family is my rock. My mom is the most supportive and strong woman I have ever known. Whenever things were difficult for us, which in a way they always have been, she figures out a way for us to get through it with as little suffering as possible. Currently, no one living in my household has a job or steady income. Somehow, we still have a place to live, food, a car, and even internet. She has taught me that no matter what situation I am in, if I want it bad enough, I can make it work. I am the oldest of six, which has taught me to care for and sacrifice things I think I need for the well-being of others. They push me to achieve and excel in everything I do so I can be someone to look up to so they do the same. My aspiration is not to prove anyone wrong, but to prove my school right and reassure my teachers, parents and coaches that they did not make a bad decision believing in me.
