BENEFITING: UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 18, 2014
What could be more challenging than running a startup? Running the Chicago Urbanathalon to raise funds for our fantastic students in the Entrepreneurship Residential Learning Community!
My goal is to raise $1,000 from our distinguished alumni and friends of the community. While that’s not enough to pay for an emergency room visit, it’d be amazingly helpful to current and future ERLC residents who are “Dreaming Big!”
It’s natural you may have a few questions, such as:
Q1: Remind me again, what does the ERLC spend money on?
Great question! We’re thankful for the recent shout-out in Business Week, and we’ll admit: we’re an ambitious group always trying to take our programs to the next level! ERLC funding supports:
- Research projects with faculty and graduate students like the epic “hackathons” with Jay O’Toole in the Sellery lounge
- Startup ventures like Canary, Zuntik, Metrojolt…and many more!
- Community-building activities like concerts in Milwaukee and hockey games in Chicago
We also organize and deliver courses, lead site visits to area companies, support the new HIVE makerspace, sponsor an annual Chicago trip, and – of course – host monthly dinners with an array of fun faculty and engaging entrepreneurs! As you can guess, this all requires money.
We raise a lot of the funding ourselves from campus partners, private foundations, and others, but we could really use your help with a small gift!
Q2: Will my small gift matter?
Actually, yes! $10. $20. $100. It’s all good! Some of you may remember we had an awesome grant from the Kauffman Foundation to launch our community. Going forward, I’m hoping that alumni and friends like you will invest alongside the campus, the Wisconsin School of Business, and current residents themselves. Yes: your money is “matched.” I’m even sacrificing my body!
That’s it. Short and sweet. Dream Big!
