Join Jessie fight human trafficking
Organized by: Jessie Johnston
EVENT DATE Aug 24, 2015
Hi, my name is Jessie Johnston. I just graduated from high school and I have the opportunity to go to Bangkok, Thailand on a mission trip to serve those trapped in the sex trade. The trip is through Adventures in Missions Passport program, and we will spend 3 months there. I will be ministering to women and children who find themselves in this unfortunate trade. I will be working with a team of other women to spread the love of Jesus, teach, counsel, and help to train these women and children new skills so they can sustain themselves. As a team, our goal will be to build relationships with the people and give love and hope to them.
I recently have returned from my second trip to Managua, Nicaragua where I was blessed to serve people (mainly children) in the areas surrounding one of Managua's largest dumps. Because of my experience there, I thought it logical that I go to another Latin American country. Adventures in Missions did not have one open, so in my search for another location, I came across the Thailand trip. It was like a light went on. I knew this was the one for me and let me tell you why.
First, my family has been sponsoring a young man from north central Thailand for the last 16 years. During that time, we have learned a little about the country and his possible lifestyle. The second reason is, that a few years ago I was at a summer camp and a woman came and spoke to us about human trafficking. She spoke about the the sex trade and how large slavery has become in the world. It bothered me that such a thing took place and I wanted to do something.... anything! I told the woman that I wanted to help, but was told I should just pray. I knew she didn't mean it in a negative way, but I felt I was being dismissed because of my age. I would have done something, though I didn't know what ( she was partially right since I was only 14 ) but I just needed the encouragement. Anyway, when I saw Thailand and the details of the trip, I knew it was the trip for me! Having shared these details with my mother previously, she also had an immediate peace about this particular trip (if you knew my worry-some mother, you'd see how big that was).
So anyway, I would appreciate your prayers and your support for this trip. The cost for the trip is $5700.00 to Adventures in Missions, plus $1000.00 for the inoculation, and finally $300.00 for airfare. I will fly to Atlanta where the trip originates and my training takes place. I have already raised the first $4500.00.
Thank you for considering this, and feel free to look up the details of my trip at adventures.org/passport. You can also confirm my involvement by contacting ADV @ 1-800-881-2461 and ask for donor relations. Give them my name and the trip destination.
Thank you again and may God richly bless you...
