Join the Starmer's as they lead a Mission Team to Help Haiti
Organized by: christina starmer
Come along with us by helping with travel expenses, shelter, providing a feast for the neighboring community during our stay and a 3 day Camp for these kids who rarely even know if they will be fed from day to day. You CAN make a huge distance right now as "distance does not matter"...your heart is the only thing that does. During our 6 days there, we (and our team) will host a 3 day camp full of creative art, play and teachings. We will bring donated supplies to the classrooms, art projects for the summer camp, playground necessities, hygiene items (such as toothbrushes, and toothpaste and toilet paper...which we all take for granted here in the states) as well as a sense of pride to these kids. Each year that we go, they are keenly aware that someone, somewhere still cares and that they have NOT been forgotten! Being 3 1/2 hours from the Port Au Prince airport on bumpy rocky roads uphill in a remote village, would lead anyone to feel forgotten after a while. Especially without internet and a sense of confidence. But these kids are special! They smile and dance and relish the time that we squeeze out each year to visit. And as we believe that we are doing something for these kids, they actually do so much more for us. This is a school that was built from the love of one man: Pastor Irick Saint Cyr. After returning to Haiti 20 years later, he has built 3 wells and a school which currently has the capacity to help 190 of the neighboring kids. No other school is nearby, yet people have no form of transportation except their own two feet. With the avg Haitian daily salary being $1, many are not able to pay for food, proper shelter and clothes, much less an education for their child. For those that are currently enrolled, we will be fund0raising for $30 per month sponsorship for each child there. If we make our goal, the monthly budget including food and teacher salaries will be met! And we are determined to make this goal. Once this goal is accomplished, Mr. Saint Cyr can solely concentrate on building out for more classrooms and new students as well as the grand opening of a new school which is in the near future plans...
