My son Jon is 23, very responsible and a very hard worker. He helps care for his 78 year old grandfather with dementia. He took a day trip to Georgia and as he was returning to his car he was aggressively approached by a police officer. He was not read his rights, he was not told he was being arrested, let alone what he was being arrested for. He was denied phone access to call family or an attorney. He was still denied his own phone access until a week ago. There have been several missteps and questionable tactics by the police officers involved. We called local attorneys in the area he is in and as soon as they heard what city and county NONE wanted to take his case, we were repeatedly told the county he is in is too difficult to deal with and we needed to get an attorney from out of the area that was experienced. The officer was at the garage on another call, and made the decision to harass my son. Now we have to fight for him to be granted bond and fight in a county where everything about his contact with the police, the bahvior of local law enforcement is questionable at best. He has lost his job because of this and the attorney fees are extremely costly, in part because he is an out of state resident. He is scared, confused and missing his family. He has never had police contact before, he has no record. We have been told they can hold him up to 90 days in Georgia with no indictment of charges and no bond. We hired an Atlanta attorney and she is currently fighting in court for his bond. She has given us a couple of months to come up with the fees or she will not be able to continue his defense. Our family would be extremely grateful for any help anyone can give Jon. We all miss him, and I am so worried for him. Jonathon is biracial and this was an obvious reason for the initial officer contact. Please help bring him home.
