Believe it or not, we are nearing the 10th anniversary of my dear brother Michael’s passing. Many of you who had the pleasure of knowing him knew what a generous and giving a soul he was. His true passion in life was sharing the gift of music.
And to that end, many years prior to his passing, Michael founded The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, with the help of Richard Dreyfuss and a handful of others involved with the film. The foundation’s goal is simple: put instruments in the hands of low-income, disadvantaged children, and as a result, give them the opportunity to benefit from the gift that music has to offer.
Ironically, the same New York City school system that gave my brother his terrific early music education, is now in need of instruments more than ever. For my birthday this year, I want to raise $75,000 to bring more music to disadvantaged students in NYC as well as other cities in need nationwide.
