Jon Koehmstedt is an entrepreneur and student studying Computer Science. He is also highly involved in service and community projects. Jon's sense of duty to the community, traces back to high school, where Jon volunteered 60 hours of service to the Lamb Shelter, was a member of the Key Club, and Amnesty International.
Today Jon continues his engagement by serving the community through organizing the DC Metro Innovation Project(an entrepreneurs' group in Alexandria, VA that teaches entrepreneurship to the community), throughGiftsForAllKids.com (a non-profit charity Jon founded to raise money for underprivileged and homeless children in DC for Christmas), through organizing campus bible studies as the President of the Youth Christian Association, and teaching entrepreneurship at the local community college through the Society for Business and Entrepreneurship.
What I'm raising money for:
As some of you may know, I started a business in high school and poured my heart into it for 6 years. About 7 months ago I decided to rethink my priorities, and made a hard decision to put my business on hold indefinitely while going back to school to get my bachelor’s. Being back in school has been a breath of fresh air. My passion for academics and learning has been reinvigorated. I have discovered a new found fascination in Computer Science. However, although Computer Science is fascinating to me, my true passion lies in business and social entrepreneurship (solving problems for social good through business). I want to use my entrepreneurial talents to make a difference in the world, and not just to make money. I'm at a turning point in my life where I'm searching for where to commit myself to next.
I stumbled upon the StartingBloc Fellowship while searching for organizations with similar beliefs, and immediately knew it was for me. The StartingBloc Fellowship and I both believe that creating economic value and creating social good should go hand-in-hand. They look for young social innovators between 20-30 years old who are at a key inflection point, young leaders poised to make big changes in their lives.
I was recently accepted into the Fellowship’s Institute, a five-day transformative experience that will take place February 14 -18, 2013 in in Santa Monica, CA. During the Institute, young leaders will develop social enterprise skils, complete an innovative case-study competition, participate in sessions with industry leaders, and more. I believe that this StartingBloc Institute will be the catalyst to accelerate my career in social impact.
Please help me complete my first mission for the StartingBloc Institute: to raise my tuition of $1,000 by December 20th, 2012. Please click below on my fundraiser for the StartingBloc Institute to help donate (even a few dollars help!), and aid me in making a difference in the world, creating economic value and creating social good.
Feel free to message me through this system if you'd like to discuss anything related to social innovation, or entrepreneurship in the community, etc. Thank you so much for your time and support!
