BENEFITING: Courage Beyond
Imagine witnessing or being involved in a traumatic event (war, natural disaster, car accident, etc.). Now imagine that happening on a frequent, recurring basis. The stress of just the first event alone could trigger what is known as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Unfortunately, many of our combat veterans suffer from PTSD as a result of repeated combat stress.
Not Alone is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to reach out on the new battlefield and deliver the most effective outreach and treatment to warriors and their families suffering from PTSD.
Team Not Alone is Not Alone’s athlete training/racing team where individuals who enjoy various athletic competitions can dedicate their training and competing to help raise funds and awareness for the organization.
As a combat veteran and triathlete, I'm dedicating my 2013 triathlon season towards helping our veterans and their families dealing with PTSD. In a typical season, I will train between 500-600 hours annually. For every hour I train, I will donate $1 (my motivation to do all of my scheduled training).
Additionally, I'm looking to others to donate but only on triathlon events throughout the season culminating in the final "A" race. The final race will occur sometime between Sep-Nov. I don't know which one yet as I'm moving this year (hey...I a military guy...it just happens every few years like clock work).
How it will work. For a given event, I will post my goal finish time to this website. If I meet or exceed the time, the requested donation will be $40. If I finish behind my goal time but within a 10 minute window, the requested donation will be $30. If I "blow-up" but still finish, the requested donation will be $20. So, it is sort of a game but also my motivation to push hard on each event. However, it you just want to donate, any amount is greatly appreciated.
