Let's review some numbers:
1...1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime.
2...In the United States, a woman is diagnosed with Breast Cancer every 2 minutes.
13...Every 13 minutes a woman in the US dies of Breast Cancer.
But now let's review some good ones...
96...that's how old my Great Grandmother, Martha McNamara, was when she passed away in April 2013. She passed away not of breast cancer, but as a 16 year survivor of the disease. Cancer did not claim her life...old age did...as it rightfully should.
25...the number of years I had the privilege and honor of knowing and loving her- a number that would not have been possible without the advancements made in the treatment of Breast Cancer in her lifetime.
26.2...the number of miles I'll be running on November 3rd, 2013 in honor of my great-grandmother, the handful of amazing women I've known who have been diagnosed in the past year and the countless others who have fought, conquered and continue to battle this disease.
Thank you all so very much for visiting my marathon fundraising page. I started this journey in June 2012 and it is because of all of you that I'm still here...running to make a change and conquer my dreams. Last year, I was able to raise over $3,000 dollars for The Pink Agenda to fund breast cancer research and treatment- a fact that I am so grateful to say.
Unfortunately, I was never able to fulfill my entire promise to all of my supporters and cheerleaders due to Hurricane Sandy. Even though I finished the Charlotte Marathon- and was so thrilled to do so- I made a promise last year that I would run 26.2 in New York City and I am keeping that promise.
I ask you to join me...one more time...as I run the ING NYC Marathon on November 3rd, 2013. With an even stronger than last year NYC under my feet, Boston in my heart and the fight against breast cancer pushing each foot in front of the other...I'll see you at the FINISH LINE!
With all my love and gratitude,
