BENEFITING: The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation
Since this has been shared a few times, I guess I better give a little more info since some of you may not even know me.
I'm Jory. I'm 43 years old and I have Lupus. I was diagnosed in 1999, after entering the hospital on my wife's birthday (Happy Birthday!) 3 days of every test imaginable, from blood and urine to a bone marrow biopsy. Lupus was the diagnosis.
Like many of you, I had never heard of Lupus at that point and from the quick research I did, I thought it was a death sentence. Having a 2 year old boy, and just having a 3 month old daughter, I wondered as many do...why did this happen to me?
I thought I would not see my kids grow up. All I wished for was to see them grow up, graduate, get married. One has now graduated, the other only a year to go. Life has been, overall, good to me, all things considered.
Along the way I've been part of clinical trials, ingested more medication than any person should ever have to, and partaken in many other tests and procedures.
Advancements are being made in Lupus research, not fast enough in my eyes, but considering where it was 25 years ago, I'm grateful for where it has come.
That is where this fundraiser comes in. I'm just trying to do what little I can for research and awareness. So, anything you can give... be it $1 or $100... I greatly appreciate your kindness to me, and all who live with (and suffer from) this unfair disease.
