BENEFITING: The Grassroot Project
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2015
For the third year in a row I am going to be running the Marine Corps Marathon! As a Veteran this race is very meaningful to me. Also very important to me is healthcare, my industry since leaving the military. This year, I've selected a local Washington D.C. charity, The Grassroot Project, to support and help raise funds for as I prepare for the race.
WHO WE ARE:
The mission of The Grassroot Project (TGP) is to use sports to educate at-risk youth in Washington D.C. about HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. The Grassroot Project engages at-risk youth in Washington D.C. by partnering with athletes from Georgetown University, George Washington University, Howard University, Maryland University and other DC area universities. The student athletes address the prevention of HIV/AIDS through an interactive curriculum of over 15 games and activities that encourage participatory learning of basic HIV prevention information, stigma, and discrimination. By using the vehicle of sport to influence social change, the programs allow kids to share their feelings and beliefs, increase knowledge, and develop healthy attitudes and behaviors.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Run with me towards the day of an HIV/AIDS free generation by clicking the DONATE button on the right and offering your support. I am seeking 26 donors (one for each mile) to donate $20 (or more) to help me reach my fundraising goal.
