BENEFITING: Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity
Michael Joseph is a single dad of four adorable children. Currently they live in a small, two-bedroom home with Michael's mother. Growing up in St. Lucia, Michael lived in a small, unfurnished and overcrowded home. He wants nothing more than to provide his children with the peace and stability that their own home will bring.
Michael discovered Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program and attended a seminar to learn more. Seeing that it might be a good fit for his family, he took a chance, applied and was accepted. Currently he is working to complete his 10 financial and homeownership education classes, monthly one-on-one budgeting sessions, and 350 hours of "sweat equity" helping to build his home and the homes of other Habitat partner families.
RMHFH bridges the gap between education, poverty, and homeownership and creates the opportunity of affordable housing for families like the Joseph's. Michael will purchase his home and pay an affordable, zero percent interest mortgage, saving him thousands of dollars over the course of being a homeowner.
Michael cannot wait to move into his new home; his children for the first time will have their own rooms and will enjoy playing in their future backyard.
"It has been a very long-time goal of mine to own a home. It would be a dream come true for me and my kids." - Michael Joseph
