BENEFITING: BORGEN PROJECT
The Borgen Project is a non-profit that advocates for the world’s poor and is working to make poverty a focus of US foreign policy. With over 200 volunteers throughout the United States, we operate through four major strategies: building awareness of global issues, educating citizens on basic advocacy, mobilizing people across the US to share their voice in Congress, and advocating to make poverty a political priority.
Volunteers like myself work with our Congressional leaders to help generate change and secure support for crucial poverty-reducing legislation. I chose to be involved with The Borgen Project because I want others to be given the same opportunities I have been afforded. I’ve always had access to education, legal rights, and freedoms that often times I’ve taken for granted. In my travels in the US Navy I have seen people living under sickening conditions of filth, starvation, and oppression. I realize that the rights and luxuries I do have gave me an opportunity and responsibility to help others who don’t. Working with The Borgen Project provides an opportunity to help others by bringing awareness to the issue of extreme poverty while taking meaningful steps towards eliminating it. Please help me reach my goal of $500 for this great organization.
