When I was just three years old I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Since that diagnosis 18 years ago, each day brings it’s own set of challenges that anyone living with this disease must face. However, the support of my family, friends and others that I have met in the diabetes community has taught me that diabetes doesn’t have to hold me back from living life. From this mentality came one of my personal goals: to run a marathon to prove to myself and others that life with diabetes doesn’t have to be anything short of amazing. Since coming to Boston 3 years ago to attend Boston College, I have joined Joslin as a patient and have seen the fantastic things that Joslin is doing for diabetes treatment and research. It is truly an honor for me to represent this organization while fulfilling one of my own personal goals.
To my family, friends and those whose lives have been affected by Type 1 Diabetes, please join me in reaching my fundraising goal for the Joslin Diabetes Center’s Boston Marathon Team.
