My involvement with Type1 Diabetes(T1D) started suddenly this fall when my beautiful, athletic, smart 10yr old daughter, Lila was diagnosed with both Diabetes and Celiac disease.
T1D cannot be prevented. It is a chronic disease with lethal consequences if not managed properly. Day to day management of T1D is tough and the psychological and emotional toll on the family and siblings is significant. You worry a lot about your kids. With Diabetes you worry a lot more. All a parent really wants is to provide a solid framework for a life to be well lived by their children. T1D makes this that much more difficult.
A lot has been done by Joslin Research Center and others to improve the lives of Diabetics but a lot more can be done. In today’s health care system more and more of the work to improve/eradicate Diabetes relies on private contributions.
Please contribute whatever you can. Every little bit helps.
