One more long run to go!
October 08, 2017
BENEFITING: Joslin Diabetes Center
ORGANIZER: Joslin Diabetes Center
I am beyond excited to announce that I'll be running the 2017 NYC Marathon with Team Joslin! I had the privilege and honor of running my first marathon with Team Joslin this past October in Chicago (see picture above) and from the moment I crossed the finish line I knew I'd be back for more. There is something about running for a charity, specifically one that is close to your heart, that makes all of the training hours and miles worth it.
My mom, Brenda, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was just 12 years old. She started going to Joslin Diabetes Center in 1973 and learned early on through their youth trainings and camps how to manage her diabetes. Without the support and services provided by Joslin, I don't know if she'd be the super-mom and woman she is today.
During all three of my mom’s pregnancies she frequented Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston for their Pregnancy Program. Managing type 1 diabetes can be very complicated and adding pregnancy to the daily challenge can be immense, but with support and top notch resources provided by Joslin, many women are able to succeed in meeting the demands of diabetes management during pregnancy and successfully give birth to healthy and happy babies. My mom is living proof of this (x3)!
Diabetes SUCKS, but there are people and places out there that make it manageable and allow people to live their lives. I am so grateful for Joslin Diabetes Center and for my mom. For that, I run 26.2 again. #TeamJoslin
