People we meet make the difference in our lives. They can inspire us to be at our best or provoke us to be at our worst. They can put smiles on our faces that can last for days or cause endless streams of tears. They can lift us up when we feel hopeless or stifle any glimmer of hope we might have. The biggest difference people make in our lives is to cause us to love and be loved beyond measure. Our journey has taken us into the world of addiction, into the world of recovery, and the world of loss. Family and friends. We've celebrated "anniversaries" many times. The pride and joy and hope of addicts in recovery. 30 days. 90 days. 6 months. 1 year. 5 years and so on. Good stuff. Repaired and renewed relationships. And where there are triumphs, there are also losses. We've grieved over setbacks and mourned at funerals. Two funerals in three weeks in the summer of 2015. Both young men we saw grow up. Both boys were childhood friends of our son. They were full of energy, but they could not escape their addiction. We are grateful to be part of a united force in support of AtTAcK Addiction. We are personally driven to participate in e-Race the Stigma 5K on March 5, 2016, in honor of two special people, Trey Duke and Sean Cannon. To all of our friends who have had to face the addiction of their loved ones or those who have even struggled with addiction themselves, know that you are not alone and know there is hope in recovery. We are seeking your support for this very worthy fundraiser. Please take the time to visit the AtTAcK Addiction website at www.attackaddiction.com to discover the wonderful resources they offer. Please donate generously or join our team and run with us to e-race the stigma.
