JOY! photography project
Organized by: Carissa Sindon
OVER $7,500 RAISED FOR JOY!
March 31, 2018
As a follow up to my SEEN exhibition in 2015, I am excited to announce I have begun a new photography project, JOY! The purpose of JOY! is to explore and document joy, and inspire people to create more joy in their lives. To put it simply, there’s too much negativity in the world, so let’s focus on the positive!
I will photograph 20 diverse people for this project. I will ask subjects to think of something that brings them joy (e.g., an activity, person, place, object, accomplishment, etc.) and will take a photograph of the subjects and their joy. I will also ask subjects to finish the sentence “JOY! is___________.” I will place these statements with the images. The project will culminate in an exhibition featuring the images at the Yoga Tree of Boise October 21. For those who are unable to attend the exhibit, the images will be available via my website, www.carissasindon.com, when the exhibit is finished.
Joy is a simple concept, however, often times it seems easier to focus on the negative aspects of life. For example, newspaper headlines and social media tend to center on events like the European Refugee and Migrant crisis, political divisiveness and feuding, and tragedies like disease and death. However, what we focus on in life is what we create. Joy is accessible to us at all times, and we are able to cultivate it in our life in all moments, even in our darkest.
My hope is to bring people together over a positive concept: joy. And in the process, create an exhibit filled with joy that will inspire attendees (and subjects of the project) to focus on, create, and spread more joy. Emotions are contagious. We can choose to pass on happiness and joy to others by creating (and cultivating) happiness and joy in our own lives.
Your contributions will graciously support the creation of this art project, including compensating the artist for her time (both artistically and administratively), printing of programs and images for the exhibit, promotion of the project, travel to photo shoots and to recruit subjects, and other operating expenses. Please check out my website, www.carissasindon.com to see a breakdown of my budget.
Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions/comments.
