BENEFITING: JOY IN THE CAUSE COMPANY
My name is Alyssa. I am a 15 year old Sophomore in High School. I am currently involved with an organization called International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Upon being elected as Worthy Advisor of my local Claremore Assembly, we are required to pick another organization to Volunteer with. For my six month term, I choose Joy In The Cause. I first saw a flyer for Joy In The Cause while at Urgent Care in Claremore. I then found Joy In The Cause on Facebook. After validating that Joy In The Cause was a legitimate Charity, I reached out to them and met the most amazing lady, Lisa Bain.
Lisa and her Mother, Juanita Jernigan began this Charity when Lisa was diagnosed with two autoimmune disorders and the same week Juanita was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. “As I sat by the bedside of my mother, after telling her she had cancer and that I had received some bad news on my end, we started laughing,” Bain says. “Her reply was, ‘Well isn’t this just a hoot!’ At that moment, we decided to make this the journey of our lives. We would make it about laughter, about joy, and about helping others through their tough journey.”

The mission statement of Joy In The Cause: Joy in the Cause is a non profit 501c3 charity whose mission is to provide care, compassion, and joy one personal act of kindness at a time.
Within a month of working with Joy In The Cause, my Grandma had a stroke. I asked Lisa if I could take her a Mavis Dog. She gave me a Mavis dog to take to Kansas to my Grandma. I got to experience first hand the Joy that stuffed Mavis brought to my Grandma.
I came back to Oklahoma more determined than ever to whatever I possibly could for Joy In The Cause, from volunteering with them to raising money to spreading the word about them.
With my Rainbow Sisters we have had several fundraisers to help sponsor a set of Mavis Dogs to be delivered to anyone that might need them, we have gone to several volunteer events, and are scheduled to see the magic of actually giving a Mavis Dog.
Joy In The Cause's "calling card" is a stuffed Mavis Dog. Each dog is dressed in a one of a kind outfit, that includes a tutu (usually), a bandanna, a necklace, and usually a bow. Each dog is prayed over before sent out to bring Joy. Mavis Dogs are also available for purchase and do make great gifts.
Joy In The Cause not only leaves Mavis Dogs but also provides gas cards for patients who need help getting to and from the doctor, groceries for families that need extra help due to their illness. Any need that a person or family needs Joy In The Cause tries to fulfill regardless of what their illness or disease is.
I can't begin to express how much Lisa and Joy In The Cause has touched my heart. I plan to continue working with Joy In The Cause after my term as Worthy Advisor.
