BENEFITING: Center for Anti-Violence Education
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
Hello to all of my family and friends. I'll be running the NYC Marathon in November, dedicating each mile I run and each dollar I can raise to The Center for Anti-Violence Education in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
The Center for Anti-Violence Education (CAE) works as a catalyst for change in the lives of women, transgender people, teen women, children, and other communities especially affected by violence. CAE’s programs are designed to develop participants’ skills, knowledge, and awareness to enable them to heal from, prevent, and counter violence. They do this work to actively create a peaceful, just, and equitable world. http://www.caeny.org/
I have been preparing and looking forward to the marathon for almost two years, completing the 9+1 NY Road Runners qualifying races in 2010 and now training hard to complete 26.2 miles with an amount of strength and courage I've not yet known.
Why do I choose to run for CAE?
Running long distances is a type of meditation for me. There is a point in a long run where I forget complications. My mind sharpens, my heart grows and my past and present demons eat my dust. Running empowers me to be the self I wish I could be all the time. It will be the greatest honor for me to contribute to the empowerment and education of all people whose strength is compromised by any form of abuse or trauma. This is why I choose to run for victims of violence.
It is very important for me to note here that emotional abuse causes deep trauma. Not all abuse is visible and people around you are suffering every day. They need help.
Please help in my cause and if you are unable to donate, come cheer me on at the race! I'll be running my heart out.
