BENEFITING: United Way of Northwest Vermont, Inc.
EVENT: Mission: Possible VT
EVENT DATE: Aug 18, 2013
It's suggested that if you don't give back no one will like you ... I'll probably still like you, but why not give back? Maybe skip dinner out this week, second guess that new item you wanted - it probably won't make you happier anyways ...
Over the next month I'm collecting pledges to raise money and awareness for the United Way of Chittenden County. UWCC raises millions of dollars each year that are invested back into the community via dozens of non-profits in the area. I'm proud to sit on a board of diverse community members from all walks of life who make sure the funds coming in to the United Way go back to deserving non-profits who prove their financial need but match it with successful community programs.
Come August I'll be competing with a few uber-cool colleagues and other young professionals in a 'friendly competition' to close our fundraising. Teams of 2 sweat their way through light physical and mental challenges around our City for a great cause.
So whether you're a Burlingtonian like myself or live afar, this is a great way to support a safe, vibrant and progressive community AND boost your happiness (studies prove!). If that's not enough I encourage you to find a way that YOU can take part in localized charity. Giving is contagious. When we give, we don’t only help the immediate recipient of our gift. We also spur a ripple effect of generosity through our community.
