BENEFITING: Ross County Coalition Against Domestic Violence
Judge Bunch's proudest accomplishment during his 18 years on the bench was the Victim/Witness Assistance Program he established in 1994. The first program of its kind in the state of Ohio, the Victim/Witness Assistance Program aids victims of misdemeanor crimes in Chillicothe and Ross County with getting the financial and mental health assistance they need during their time of crisis. The program employs a full-time advocate to explain the court process, be the victims’ liaison in listening to their needs and concerns, supports the victims views in the proceedings and provides a court escort. The program also helps victims obtain aid through the Ohio Victim of Crime Compensation fund and refers victims to agencies that can assist with counseling, shelter or other physical and emotional needs. The biggest benefactors of this program are women that are victims of domestic abuse. The Judge Bunch Memorial Fund has been established to provide financial support to the agencies that the Victim/Witness Assistance Program works directly with. We want to ensure that an important part of Judge Bunch's legacy in the community stays financially supported well into the future and that future victims and witnesses of crime get the financial and mental health assistance they desperately need.
