BENEFITING: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-REBUILD MICHIGAN
EVENT: Mighty Mac Swim 2016
EVENT DATE: Sep 05, 2016
My name is Judy Depew. I am a teacher, a wife, and the mother of two wonderful daughters.
I started swimming again three years ago after a 20+ year hiatus. My daughter had made a commitment to year-round swimming and I found myself feeling nostalgic for my age group and high school swimming days. After spending some time swimming laps by myself in various “open swim” situations, I sought out a masters swimming program and found a home with Atlantis where I am a swim mom and a board member. I love being a part of an organization which seeks to provide the best possible environment for all ages to learn and practice swimming as well as learn the value of teamwork and hard work, and most importantly how to celebrate victories and recover from disappointment. Swimming has given me so much friendship and camaraderie over the years, it is fitting that I will be celebrating my 50th birthday by completing this challenging swim.
I am inspired to swim the Mighty Mac by my friends and teammates at Atlantis who work hard and to achieve their goals, by my students and colleagues at the International Academy of Macomb who challenge themselves to learn something new every day, and my parents who were able to provide me with a safe and caring home. I am supported in my swim by all of the people above, as well as my extended family and friends who have helped me reach my goals over the years and will help me reach this one. It is my hope that I can share the good fortune that I have had over the years with Habitat for Humanity and that you will help me.
