Julia, also known as Julie, Jules, Bamma, Bamsy, Bams and Grandma J, is a native Californian (a 3rd generation Bay Area native raised in Mtn. View). She is number six out of seven children, is a mother of two children, and a grandmother to four beautiful grandsons. She works for a successful Silicon Valley high tech company where she runs a top notch worldwide team. Julia also sits on the Board of Directors of Sunnyvale Community Services.
Julia is a runner, swimmer, and is desperately trying to learn to play tennis again. She considers destination races “vacations” and is truly is amazed at what she will do for a medal and a race T-shirt. Over the past 14 years, she has completed 13 full marathons, numerous 1/2 marathons, and, for the past 3 years, has been part of a 12 person relay team running from Calistoga to Santa Cruz (approximate race distance is 200 miles). Prior to 2001, Julia was a couch potato. She still can’t identify what drove her to sign up for her first marathon. She just knew she HAD to do it.
Julia also has a knack for coming up with creative and successful fundraising events. Just ask some of her victims, uh, co-workers how creative her events can be. It’s in this vein that Julia decided to turn the Kilimanjaro trek into a fundraising vehicle for Sunnyvale Community Services.
