Stuff About Me:

During my junior year at Emerson College, I sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) consisting of a fractured skull and hemorrhages within multiple layers of my brain. I spent the next four days in the Neuro-ICU at Beth Israel Hospital. After a month on bedrest, the weeks and months that followed were a blur of trying to catch up in classes and resume some sense of normalcy while battling constant migraines, nausea, light-sensitivity, anosmia (loss of sense of smell), accident-related depression and anxiety, and navigating my new identity as someone living with an invisible disability.

In the midst of all of this, I found a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude. I found humility in my continued existence and committed myself to ceasing every opportunity possible moving forward. I managed not only to graduate on time, but magna cum laude, as a member of the Purple Key Leadership Society, and as the recipient of the Dean's Award.

I’m fortunate to say that many of my symptoms have lessened in their frequency and severity. In 2016, I began running simply because I was thankful to have the physical faculties to be able to do so; many survivors of TBIs suffer from paralysis, vertigo, and other repercussions that inhibit them from engaging in such activity. After running my first half-marathon, albeit slowly, I saw a potential in myself to continue, to keep going. I vividly remember my dad looking me in the eye after the race and saying to my mom, "She's going to run the Boston marathon someday." "Yeah right," I thought at the time. His faith in me helped me find faith in myself, and lead me to the realization that if I were ever to run 26.2 miles, I would only do it if it were in support of survivors of TBIs and other life-threatening injuries.

I am humbled to be running the Boston Marathon in support of the Annual Fund for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the organization to which I can truly say I owe my life, in the city that holds my heart. Thank you hearing my story and for considering a donation to Beth Israel in support of my run.
