This marathon is going to be my first one! I started running in January 2015 on a regular basis because I did not have time to get involved into any other sport activities. As a dare with my friend Siobhan, we registered for a 10k that happened last Saturday (March 21st). I am coming from a family of runners and triathletes, so it did not take me long to get hooked on running. I just registered for a half-marathon with my dad at the end of May and I am trying to train as much as possible every week. I think this decision of running a marathon was really a way to challenge myself and also challenge what other think of me. I have always been chubby and considered as the smart one, really good at studying and I want to show myself and others that I can be more than that. I can be good at something that no one is expecting me to be good at. This journey to the NYC marathon is a journey to find confidence in myself as well as exposing the true me.
I got involved in cancer charities before and I want to run for SASF because I really feel that their mission is closer to mine in life. My field is museums and I clearly remembered that I got interested in cultural visits through after school activities such as drawing or theatre. I really think that those activities are crucial in the development of a happy child or teenager and I was always able to find comfort and peace with after school activities. I want the SASF kids to get a sense of the multiplicity of things they can do and achieve thanks to school, arts and sports. I want to be worth of the SASF kids. I would like my story to inspire them, to see that it is is not because you are thought to be someone, that you cannot be someone else. I want them to be able to overcome their fear of the unknown and the unaccessible and I hope that the money that I am raising and my story will help them.
