BENEFITING: The Eating Disorders Information Network, Inc.
EVENT: Merrick's Walk for EDIN 2016
EVENT DATE: Oct 30, 2016
My purpose is simple.... to raise awareness of ED's and to let everyone know there is a network of help out there. No one should feel alone in this battle nor should they feel shame. Unfortunately, those suffering often feel both. Please join me on my quest to reach my goal!!
Merrick’s Walk for EDIN is a 2.7 mile walk around Chastain Park with the following purposes:
to raise awareness of eating disorders,
to remember those who have lost their battle with an eating disorder, and
to raise funds for the Eating Disorders Information Network (EDIN) and its prevention programs in schools and the community of Atlanta.
The event began in 2001 in honor of Merrick Ryan, a19-year old Galloway alum who died from complications of anorexia.
This year, the theme for Merrick’s Walk for EDIN is “The Strength is Within You.” We chose this theme recognizing that we all often have far more strength within us than we realize and this strength is an important part of recovery and then thriving in life. Sometimes strength begins with taking that first step and knowing that recovery is possible! Tell a trusted friend. Ask for help. Make an appointment with a therapist.
We invite all participants to take part in our costume contest this year! Dress as your favorite hero (real-life or fictional) and we will be awarding prizes for the best individual and team costumes.
Please join us in our mission to spread eating disorder awareness and promote our prevention efforts in Atlanta. Thank you for your support!
With love and gratitude,
Julie, Jordan and Maddie
